The three cups
Cup 1: Quick Sums
Quick Sums, Division: steady mental arithmetic against a gentle clock. Sixty seconds; the first problem is 18 ÷ 2.
Tip: Round and adjust: 38 + 47 is 40 + 47 minus two.
Cup 2: Number Span
Number Span, In order · Hard: carrying a number while it grows. The first number has 5 digits, each shown for 0.52 s.
Tip: Type steadily; there is no clock while you answer.
Cup 3: Odd One Out
Odd One Out, Hard: searching a grid calmly for the one thing that differs. Twelve rounds on grids from 5 × 5 to 7 × 7; differences: a ring with its gap moved ×4, a smaller symbol ×2, a mirrored symbol ×2, a dot more or less ×2, a turned symbol ×2.
Tip: For turns and mirrors, pick one feature of the symbol, like the foot of an L, and look only for where it points.
