The three cups
Cup 1: Step Back
Step Back, Letter · 3 back: keeping a short list moving through your mind. 23 letters, 6 of them matches; letters used: C, H, K, L, N, R, T.
Tip: Start at one back until it feels dull, then move up. The jump to two back is the big one.
Cup 2: Odd One Out
Odd One Out, Hard: searching a grid calmly for the one thing that differs. Twelve rounds on grids from 5 × 5 to 7 × 7; differences: a smaller symbol ×3, a turned symbol ×3, a mirrored symbol ×3, a ring with its gap moved ×2, a dot more or less ×1.
Tip: For turns and mirrors, pick one feature of the symbol, like the foot of an L, and look only for where it points.
Cup 3: Light Trail
Light Trail, Hard: keeping an order of shapes and notes. The first trail is 4 steps long on 9 panels; each panel glows for 0.36 s.
Tip: Listen as well as look. Each panel always plays the same note, so a trail is also a little tune.
