The three cups
Cup 1: Odd One Out
Odd One Out, Medium: searching a grid calmly for the one thing that differs. Twelve rounds on grids from 4 × 4 to 6 × 6; differences: a mirrored symbol ×5, a ring with its gap moved ×3, a turned symbol ×3, a dot more or less ×1.
Tip: Resist checking symbols one at a time. Let your gaze rest loosely on the whole grid; quite often the different one steps forward on its own.
Cup 2: Number Span
Number Span, In order · Easy: carrying a number while it grows. The first number has 3 digits, each shown for 0.8 s.
Tip: Type steadily; there is no clock while you answer.
Cup 3: Quick Sums
Quick Sums, Mixed: steady mental arithmetic against a gentle clock. Sixty seconds; the first problem is 10 − 8.
Tip: Percentages are friendlier as fractions: 25% is a quarter, 75% is three quarters, 20% is a fifth.
