The three cups
Cup 1: Reaction Time
Reaction Time, Go or stop: waiting calmly and moving the instant something changes. The first eight waits fall between 1.23 and 3.58 s, and 3 of those eight signals say Stop.
Tip: Breathe out while you wait. A tense hand jumps early more often than it reacts faster.
Cup 2: Ink & Word
Ink & Word, Hard: keeping your eye on the ink while the word pulls the other way. Forty-five seconds with 6 colours and word buttons; the first card is the word ‘blue’ in blue ink.
Tip: Let your eyes rest on the edge of the letters, where the ink is, rather than reading the middle of the word.
Cup 3: Step Back
Step Back, Letter · 3 back: keeping a short list moving through your mind. 23 letters, 6 of them matches; letters used: C, F, H, K, L, N, R, T.
Tip: Start at one back until it feels dull, then move up. The jump to two back is the big one.
