The three cups
Cup 1: Number Span
Number Span, In order · Hard: carrying a number while it grows. The first number has 5 digits, each shown for 0.52 s.
Tip: For backwards, build the number in pairs from the end while it is still appearing, rather than reversing it all at the last moment.
Cup 2: Flash Grid
Flash Grid, Hard: holding a scattered pattern for a second. The first pattern has 7 tiles on a 4 × 4 grid and stays lit for 1 s.
Tip: Look at the shape, not the tiles one by one. Three tiles often make a corner, a little line or a triangle that is easier to keep than three separate spots.
Cup 3: Reaction Time
Reaction Time, Go or stop: waiting calmly and moving the instant something changes. The first eight waits fall between 1.26 and 2.44 s, and 3 of those eight signals say Stop.
Tip: Play several rounds in a row on the same device before you judge a result; single rounds vary.
