The three cups
Cup 1: Odd One Out
Odd One Out, Easy: searching a grid calmly for the one thing that differs. Twelve rounds on grids from 3 × 3 to 5 × 5; differences: a different shape ×6, a dot more or less ×5, a turned symbol ×1.
Tip: Sweep in rows when it does not pop out. Rows are easier to keep track of than a wandering search.
Cup 2: Quick Sums
Quick Sums, Addition: steady mental arithmetic against a gentle clock. Sixty seconds; the first problem is 5 + 5.
Tip: Round and adjust: 38 + 47 is 40 + 47 minus two.
Cup 3: Number Span
Number Span, In order · Easy: carrying a number while it grows. The first number has 3 digits, each shown for 0.8 s.
Tip: Type steadily; there is no clock while you answer.
