The three cups
Cup 1: Odd One Out
Odd One Out, Easy: searching a grid calmly for the one thing that differs. Twelve rounds on grids from 3 × 3 to 5 × 5; differences: a dot more or less ×5, a turned symbol ×4, a different shape ×3.
Tip: Sweep in rows when it does not pop out. Rows are easier to keep track of than a wandering search.
Cup 2: Quick Sums
Quick Sums, Addition: steady mental arithmetic against a gentle clock. Sixty seconds; the first problem is 7 + 7.
Tip: Round and adjust: 38 + 47 is 40 + 47 minus two.
Cup 3: Reaction Time
Reaction Time, Simple: waiting calmly and moving the instant something changes. The first eight waits fall between 1.31 and 2.31 s.
Tip: Play several rounds in a row on the same device before you judge a result; single rounds vary.
