The three cups
Cup 1: Number Span
Number Span, Backwards · Easy: carrying a number while it grows. The first number has 3 digits, each shown for 0.8 s; type it backwards.
Tip: Chunk the digits as they arrive: 4-7-2 becomes forty-seven, two. Two chunks are easier to carry than five singles.
Cup 2: Step Back
Step Back, Letter · 1 back: keeping a short list moving through your mind. 21 letters, 6 of them matches; letters used: C, F, H, K, N, R, T.
Tip: Start at one back until it feels dull, then move up. The jump to two back is the big one.
Cup 3: Reaction Time
Reaction Time, Left or right: waiting calmly and moving the instant something changes. The first eight waits fall between 1.34 and 3.43 s.
Tip: In go-or-stop, wait for the word as well as the colour. A held tap on Stop is part of the score.
