The three cups
Cup 1: Odd One Out
Odd One Out, Hard: searching a grid calmly for the one thing that differs. Twelve rounds on grids from 5 × 5 to 7 × 7; differences: a dot more or less ×7, a mirrored symbol ×2, a smaller symbol ×1, a ring with its gap moved ×1, a turned symbol ×1.
Tip: For turns and mirrors, pick one feature of the symbol, like the foot of an L, and look only for where it points.
Cup 2: Number Span
Number Span, Backwards · Hard: carrying a number while it grows. The first number has 5 digits, each shown for 0.52 s; type it backwards.
Tip: For backwards, build the number in pairs from the end while it is still appearing, rather than reversing it all at the last moment.
Cup 3: Reaction Time
Reaction Time, Go or stop: waiting calmly and moving the instant something changes. The first eight waits fall between 1.48 and 3.4 s, and 3 of those eight signals say Stop.
Tip: Look at the panel, not at your finger. The change is easier to catch straight on.
